The 2004 Vegas to Reno proved to be a challenging race for the Dixon Bros. Racing team. The #7301 Ford Ranger Edge ran strong for the first 2/3rds of the race, but a bent axle cost the team 3 hours of down time at pit 12, resulting in a 5th place finish. Despite the rough finish, Dixon Bros. Racing remains in the lead for the Best in the Desert class 7300 points championship.
